Music Reading Training Course

Can't Read Music? - Look here!

What's going on?
We're running a half-day training event in May to help choir members (and their friends) grasp some basic understanding of how to read music for singing.

Who is it for?
The workshop is for beginners and provides a taster that may whet your appetite to learn more.  But there will be plenty for those who have some musical knowledge already. You'll discover musical score need not be as complex as it first looks: it's as simple as A - G.

What will be covered?  During the morning, after exploding some myths and mysteries, we'll look at the structure of music, understanding the lines, the spaces and the various symbols we commonly find, so that you'll now your way around the page.

We'll be looking at pitch, movements between notes (called intervals) time values of notes, rests, rhythms etc., and finishing with explaining some terminology often found in music.

A Fun Morning?  Certainly - our aim is to have a great time: nobody will be put on the spot.

When and where?  The event will take place from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm at Rayleigh Baptist Church (RBC) on Saturday 3rd and/or 24th May, dependent upon numbers.
Note!  RBC is in High Road, Rayleigh (between Rayleigh Weir and the town centre) and there is a public 'Pay & Display' car park nearby in Castle Road.

How much?  To cover the costs of hiring the venue and light refreshments during the morning, you are invited to make a donation of a minimum of £2, which will be collected on the day.

You'd like to join us?  Please add your name to the list available at Choir practices on Mondays and Fridays, indicating which date (or dates) you are available.

Still have questions?  Speak to Colin Brown (baritone) or Peter Dunhill (tenor) for more information.
